On final day of this half-term (Friday 27th May), we will be holding a celebration day to mark the Queen’s 70th year on the throne. All children can attend school wearing red, white and blue coloured clothing. In addition to this, we will be having an in-school ‘Hollins Grundy Fete’ which will involve a bake sale and pay-to-play carnival style games. The school day will remain the same in terms of time and parents collect children at the usual time and place.
The event, organised by the School Council, is to enable us to raise some money and be part of the ‘Queen’s Green Canopy’ Program (more information here). ‘Plant a tree for the Jubilee’; it will take place in the afternoon during school time.
In order to facilitate this, we are kindly asking for any donations of cakes or buns that the School Council will be able to sell at the event. A kind reminder that we are a nut free school, so please ensure that any cakes sent in are nut-free where possible.
As well as the bake sale, there will be the opportunity to play some carnival games including ring toss, tin can alley, bowling and others. These will be pay-to-play and all the money raised will go towards the School Council’s ambition to create a lasting memory of a special occasion that will grow and flourish alongside the children. This school wide event is even more poignant given the disruption we have experienced over the past couple of years.
We kindly ask for no more than £3.00 to be sent in with the children on the day. This will be ample funds for cakes, bakes, treats and games. Children should bring any money into school within a sealed and named envelope and handed to the class teacher, who will keep it safe until it is needed in the afternoon.
If you would like to donate pre-packaged cakes, please send these into school no earlier than the day before (Thursday 26th May) to ensure they are as fresh as possible. We are also happy to accept any home-baked delights. Cakes can be sent in on the morning of the event.
The School Council, children and teachers are looking forward to celebrating 70 years of Queen Elizabeth II on the 27th May.
