| Intent |
| It is the intent of the religious education element of our school curriculum to engage pupils in systematic enquiry into significant questions that religion and similar worldviews address. This will enable children to develop the understanding and skills needed to appreciate and appraise responses to these questions, as well as develop responses of their own. Our RE lessons are intended to offer a broad and rich curriculum to allow for a variety of ways to explore religions and their impact on the community.
We offer opportunities for children of all abilities, including those with SEND, to develop their skills and knowledge in each unit of work, and we ensure that the progression planned into the scheme of work offers the children an increasing challenge as they move through the school.

| Implementation |
| In each class RE is taught as a stand alone lesson each week.
Our RE curriculum explores questions about life and different faiths, helping the children to find out what other people believe, but at their own level. We use the ‘Bury SACRE agreed syllabus’ which covers a range of different faiths and the ‘Understanding Christianity’ framework for our teaching of Christianity. The curriculum drawn up by SCARE reflects the fact that the religious traditions in Great Britain are in the main Christian, while taking account teaching and practices of other principal religions represented in Great Britain. These are both brand new schemes of work that are being implemented from September 2021. As a result, our curriculum has no agenda to proselytise or to promote any one religion or faith over any other. It aims to encourage an understanding of what it means to be British in Bury, and the objective is for all our children to have an appreciation of all faiths. In this way we aim to facilitate and encourage respect for all, caring relationships, harmony and unity within our school, and the wider community. |
| Impact |
| The RE curriculum will be for children to have a better understanding of the religions that make up the UK landscape, and how they can learn from and work alongside each other to create community cohesion. All children will be more informed about their position in the world, and the decisions they can make impacting their future. The RE curriculum will promote inquisitive minds, respect, tolerance and understanding for all those around them including themselves.
We assess the impact of our teaching in RE by tracking children’s progress using our curriculum intent grid for RE. We assess children’s understanding through questioning and monitor their learning as evidenced in their RE books. Lessons enable a high quality work to be produced and evidenced, showcasing a deep understanding of the main religions of the world, their community and their future. This evidence will be seen through using the correct vocabulary, explanations and respectful opinions. Class discussions highlight what the children already know and have learnt in lessons. |
